A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Accounting, or Business Administration is usually mandatory, with many employers preferring a master’s degree or postgraduate diploma in Risk Management, Governance, or Compliance. Professional certifications such as CRISC, CISA, or GRCP are highly valued, and local accreditation from the Institute of Internal Auditors Namibia (IIA-Namibia) or Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (NAMFISA) exposure strengthens applications.

Daily tasks include reviewing operational and regulatory risks across upstream/downstream activities, updating compliance registers aligned with Namibian laws (e.g., Companies Act, Anti-Money Laundering Act), and liaising with NAMFISA, the Bank of Namibia, or the Ministry of Mines and Energy. You’ll also prepare reports for internal audit committees and support staff training on local compliance frameworks like the Namibian Code of Corporate Governance.

Namibian workplaces often value respect for seniority and consensus-driven decision-making, so managers are expected to consult widely — including with traditional leaders or community stakeholders where projects have social impact. Punctuality, formal communication, and adherence to public sector protocols (e.g., tender compliance, procurement regulations) are non-negotiable in SOEs like Namcor.

Entry-level roles often start as Compliance Officers or Risk Analysts in banks, SOEs, or mining firms, progressing to Manager after 5–7 years of proven regulatory engagement. Senior paths include Head of Risk & Compliance, Chief Risk Officer, or transition into governance advisory roles with regulators like NAMFISA or the Auditor General’s Office — often supported by continued professional development accredited locally.
