General Scope of Duty

The Machine Operator is responsible for operating two categories of heavy-duty equipment units (hauling units and support units) in the pit.

Location and reporting structure

This position is based at the Otjikoto Mine and will report directly to the Pit Foreman

Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate two categories of heavy-duty equipment units namely:
• hauling units e.g. ADTs and large dump trucks and
• support units e.g. track dozers, graders, wheel dozers, water trucks and diesel trucks
• Operate equipment to expected standards to minimize downtimes
• Record production tally data on the provided production log sheet daily
• Participate in risk assessment process on tasks that need to be performed
• Perform routine machine prestart checks
• Record and report identified faults to ensure preventative maintenance is done
• Practise good housekeeping on the equipment
• Maintain daily checklists and logbooks on equipment
• Follow directions and obey safety standards
• Undertake other operational duties as required by the Mining Supervisor
• Communicate efficiently, professionally and clearly about all work activities
• Participate in all safety related activities e.g. meetings and group discussions

• Ensure compliance to all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures
• Maintain a safe working environment, and keeping the assigned work area clean and tidy
• Complete site and area specific inductions

Competencies and Requirements

• Grade 10
• 3 Years machine operating experience In 2 categories of heavy-duty equipment units (hauling units and support units
• Have basic knowledge of equipment mechanical functionality to be able to determine any deviations, malfunctions and failures (to assist in preventative maintenance)
• Code C driver’s license
