MACHINE OPERATOR

Most employers require a Grade 10 or 12 certificate with Mathematics and Physical Science. You will also need a relevant trade certificate or machine-specific operator license from a recognized Namibian training institution such as NamVoc or MTC.

You will operate heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, or haul trucks while following strict safety protocols. Daily tasks include pre-operational inspections, equipment maintenance checks, and coordination with shift supervisors and ground crews.

Namibian mines commonly operate on a FIFO (fly-in-fly-out) or residential roster system with 2-4 week rotations and 12-hour shifts. Punctuality, strict adherence to safety regulations, and respect for hierarchical reporting structures are deeply valued in local mining culture.

With experience, you can advance to Senior Operator, Team Lead, or Shift Supervisor roles. Further qualifications can open paths to Maintenance Technician, Mine Planner, or even Engineering positions depending on your specialization and employer.

Standard packages usually include medical aid contributions, pension or provident fund, paid annual leave, and often accommodation or housing allowances for remote site work. Some employers also provide transport, meals, and performance bonuses.
