LECTURER (LIFE SKILLS AND INCLUSIVE EDUCATION GUIDANCE)

Most institutions require a Master's degree in Education, Special Education, or Guidance and Counselling, with a PhD preferred for senior positions. A teaching qualification and professional registration with the Namibia Professional Teachers' Union (NPTU) or relevant body is usually mandatory. Prior teaching experience, especially in inclusive education settings, strengthens your application significantly.

You will prepare and deliver lectures on life skills, inclusive education strategies, and guidance counselling to trainee teachers. Responsibilities include assessing student work, supervising teaching practice in schools, developing curriculum materials, and conducting research. You may also mentor students and collaborate with local schools to support inclusive education implementation.

Namibian universities and colleges value community engagement and often expect staff to contribute to rural outreach and school partnerships. Punctuality and respect for hierarchical structures are important, though collaborative relationships with colleagues are increasingly encouraged. Progression usually follows the academic track from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor based on research output, teaching excellence, and service. Some move into administrative roles such as Head of Department, Dean, or Director of Inclusive Education units. Opportunities also exist in policy development with the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture or international education organisations.
