Applicants usually need a Master’s degree in Biology or a closely related field; a PhD is increasingly preferred, especially for permanent or senior roles. A teaching qualification such as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or equivalent is often required or strongly recommended by Namibian institutions accredited by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA).

Daily duties include delivering lectures and practical laboratory sessions to undergraduate students, marking assignments and exams, and supervising student projects. Permanent lecturers typically receive 22–30 days of annual leave, sick leave, and study leave, in line with the Namibian Labour Act and institutional policies.
