The purpose of this position is to maximize extraction of ore from underground, through provision of quality geological support to the Mining Department.

Job description

Geological Functions

• Conduct geological mapping of all development ends and transfer the information to the relevant soft and hard-copy plans
• Supervise and coordinate all underground sampling activities
• Supervise and coordinate all underground Diamond Drilling activities
• Conduct regular inspection of development headings, peg to face measurements and update on relevant plans
• Provide regular feedback to the immediate supervisor after each visit to underground or as necessary
• Monitor development ends and make a call on development ore/waste status
• Update underground geological model (lithological/structural) using the mapping and diamond drill-hole intersections
• Advise the supervisor and the Mining Team of any anticipated adverse geological conditions ahead of development
• Monitor and track ore movement and produce reconciliation reports
• Conduct core-logging and supervise all the core-yard activities

Staff Management

• Review performance of staff, provide positive feedback as well as guidance in rectifying behaviour, when necessary.
• In addition to reviews, regularly discuss work plans and assess progress reports
• Assist each staff member in compiling a Personal Development Plan [PDP] and ensure on the job coaching or other appropriate training interventions
• Ensure on-going and effective communication with staff
• Apply all relevant HR policies and procedures

Safety, Health and Environment

• Ensure compliance to all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures
• Comply with the Namibian Mining Act (Labour Act, Ordinance, Minerals Act, Explosives Act) and Regulations clauses that apply to your work area
• Actively participate in safety and/or toolbox meetings and conduct a monthly safety inspection of work area based on set schedules
• Maintain a safe working environment and keeping the assigned work area clean and tidy
• Ensure all safe working procedures are documented and adhered to

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12
• Honours Degree in Geology (NQF Level 8)
• Minimum 1 year mining or exploration experience
• Valid code B driver’s license
