Freelance Investigative Journalist

The Namibian is looking for a freelance investigative journalist to deliver fearless, in-depth reporting that makes a difference.

Responsibilities:

• • Produce mid- and long-range investigative stories across all The Namibian’s platforms.

  • Conduct complex, document-based reporting and translate complex topics into compelling and readable stories.

  • Build and maintain sensitive source relationships.

  • Work with editors and the team to present journalism in innovative ways.

  • Ensure accuracy, fairness, and legal compliance in all reporting.

  • Collaborate with local and international investigative journalism networks.

  • Contribute to related projects, including consultation on stories, photos, infographics, videos, and social media.

Qualifications and Knowledge:

• • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, political science, law or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

  • 3-5 years of reporting experience

  • Demonstrated ability to uncover and report on corruption, mismanagement or social justice issues

  • Excellent writing, analytical and storytelling skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines

  • Strong digital literacy, with advanced research and data analysis skills

  • Passion for accountability journalism and a commitment to public interest reporting
