Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications or certifications are typically required for an Intermediate Travel Consultant – After‑Hours Services role in Namibia?
Employers usually look for a diploma or degree in travel and tourism, hospitality, or a related field, plus at least two years of experience in a travel consultancy or airline reservation system. Certification such as IATA/UFTAA Travel and Tourism Consultant or a recognized GDS (Amadeus, Sabre, Galileo) training is often preferred. Fluency in English and good communication skills are essential, with knowledge of local Namibian tourism products a plus.
What are the common day‑to‑day responsibilities of this role?
You will handle after‑hours customer inquiries, make and amend bookings for flights, accommodation, and tours using GDS platforms, and provide travel advice tailored to Namibian and international clients. The role also involves issuing tickets, processing payments, and resolving any service issues that arise outside normal office hours. Maintaining accurate records and adhering to company service level agreements are key parts of the job.
What is the typical work culture and what expectations do Namibian employers have for after‑hours travel consultants?
Namibian travel firms value a customer‑first attitude, reliability, and the ability to work independently during evening or weekend shifts. Team collaboration is important, but you must be self‑motivated to meet response time targets without direct supervision. Professionalism, punctuality, and a willingness to adapt to fluctuating workloads are expected.
What career progression or growth paths can someone expect after working as an Intermediate Travel Consultant – After‑Hours Services?
With proven performance, you can advance to a senior consultant or team leader position, overseeing shift schedules and mentoring junior staff. Further opportunities include moving into product development, corporate travel management, or operations roles within the broader tourism sector. Continuous learning, such as advanced GDS certifications or destination specialist courses, supports upward mobility.
What typical benefits do employers in Namibia offer for this position, and how should one apply?
Benefits commonly include paid annual leave, sick leave, medical aid contributions, and access to a pension or provident fund, with some companies also offering travel discounts or staff rates. To apply, submit a detailed CV and cover letter highlighting your travel industry experience, GDS proficiency, and availability for after‑hours work, either through the company’s careers portal or via reputable Namibian job portals. Employers look for clear evidence of customer service skills, reliability, and flexibility to work outside standard office hours.
