INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENT – HouseFinder Magazine

For a student role, employers in Namibia generally look for candidates currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant diploma or degree program in interior design, architecture, or a related creative field. A strong portfolio demonstrating design skills and a passion for the industry is often more crucial than extensive prior work experience.

Daily tasks might include assisting senior designers with mood boards, material sourcing, and rendering, as well as helping to prepare design presentations for publication in the magazine. You could also be involved in site visits, collaborating on photo shoots, and conducting research on local design trends and suppliers relevant to the Namibian market.

The Namibian design industry often values punctuality, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work collaboratively within a small team. Employers expect initiative, a willingness to learn, and an understanding of local aesthetics and client preferences, especially when dealing with residential projects.

Successfully completing a student role can lead to entry-level positions like Junior Interior Designer at design firms, architectural practices, or even further roles within media companies focusing on design. Many also use the experience to build their portfolio for freelance opportunities or to pursue specialized areas like staging or sustainable design within the Namibian context.

As a student or intern role, comprehensive benefits like medical aid or pension contributions are less common, though some employers may offer basic paid leave for the duration of the engagement. It's best to inquire about specific benefits during the interview process, as offerings can vary greatly depending on the company and the nature of the student agreement.

When applying, submit a concise CV, a compelling cover letter expressing your interest in design and HouseFinder Magazine, and crucially, a well-curated portfolio showcasing your best design projects. Employers in Namibia seek candidates who demonstrate creativity, a strong grasp of design principles, and an eagerness to contribute to the local design landscape.
