Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the SHEQ department to achieve company safety and compliance objectives.
- Develop, implement and continuously improve SHEQ policies, systems and risk management programmes.
- Monitor legal compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality legislation and company standards.
- Manage SHEQ budgets, resources and departmental performance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives through audits, inspections, incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Analyse SHEQ performance data and prepare management reports and recommendations.
- Lead, mentor and develop the SHEQ team to achieve operational excellence.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, clients and industry stakeholders to ensure compliance and best practice.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Health, Safety Management or Environmental Science
- Valid Code B / BE Driver’s Licence
- Minimum of 10 years’ Health & Safety / Risk Management experience
- At least 3 years’ experience in a senior management role
- Safety management and compliance monitoring experience, preferably in an open-pit mining environment
- Experience with ISO 14001, Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems and SHEQ auditing will be an added advantage
- Strong knowledge of occupational health, safety and environmental legislation
- Experience in risk management, compliance monitoring and incident investigation
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong analytical, reporting and organisational abilities
- Ability to coach, mentor and develop high-performing teams
- Proficiency in SHEQ management systems, auditing and continuous improvement practices
