MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
The HIV Tester/Counsellor is responsible for providing counselling and HIV testing services for the
mobile clinic in the target regions. The incumbent directly reports to the Registered Nurse in charge
of the clinic.
Duties and Responsibilities
» Counselling and rapid HIV testing at the mobile clinic as required;
» Referral of positive clients to appropriate services and follow-up of these clients to ensure
that they are initiated on ART;
» Ensure clients who test positive are maintained on treatment through adherence
counselling and tracing of defaulters and lost to follow up clients;
» Document and record all activities in appropriate monitoring and evaluation tools on a daily
basis;
» Compile timely and accurate monthly HIV Testing Services (HTS) statistics/reports;
» Ensure that all monthly statistics and reports are verified by Registered Nurse before
submission to head office (M&E Officer);
» Mobilize, educate and link adolescents and young people communities to relevant #BeFree
and #BreakFree activities;
» Refer survivors of Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)
to relevant services;
» Serve as the communication link between the youth communities and the ONE;
» Ability to work after hours and weekends as necessary;
» Complete daily clinic attendance registers and submit monthly time sheets;
» Collaborate with the existing stakeholders from the Ministry of Health and other
organizations in the implementation of community-based health care services;
» Perform other duties as may be assigned by the overall supervisor.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Required
» Grade 12 certificate;
» Must have a valid HIV Rapid Test Certificate;
» Experience in working in HIV/AIDS setting.
Preferred
» Good English writing and communication skills;
» Willingness to work with people, able to make home visits when need arise;
» Respected by the community, and committed to community service;
» Good organizational skills;
» Prior experience with community-based health care is an advantage;
» Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times;
» Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds,
particularly young people;
» Youth friendliness and non-judgemental attitude towards young people;
» Exercise ethical practices, respectful conduct and behaviour towards internal and external
stakeholders, and equitable treatment of others in all activities.
