Reporting to : Senior GIS Analyst
Duty station : NSA Head Office, Windhoek
Job purpose
The incumbent will be responsible for the technical aspects of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure as well as conducting quality assessment of geospatial components of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure. The incumbent will also be responsible with the incorporation and storage of available data and metadata from stakeholders according to agreed standards and procedures into the central geodatabase and metadata base.
Key Performance Areas:
- National Spatial Data Infrastructure preparations /schedules
- NSDI standards implementation and assistance services
- Assistance in regard with regional geographical information systems, spatial requests and cartographic services
- Assisting with the spatial data maintenance and web services
- Assisting with integrating of spatial data and statistics
- Assisting with spatial database systems, cartography training and advisory services
- Maintenance of the National Geographic Portal.
Educational Qualifications & Job Requirement Experience
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Geographic Information System (GIS), Geo-Information Technology/Geographic Information Science, Geography, (Population and Geography) or equivalent degree.
- At least 1 year relevant working experience within a statistics environment performing GIS, cartographic work, spatial data analysis, spatial database management and related work.
- An Honours degree in GIS will be an advantage.
Specific Requirements
- Thorough understanding of GIS statistical methods with an emphasis on geographical analysis, development and management.
- Excellent understanding of Web GIS and cartographic procedures.
- Excellent understanding of spatial data collection and management processes
- Basic understanding of NSDI implementation
- Understanding of International Geographic Information Science trends and Cartographic standards and practice
- Proficiency in software such as ArcGIS desktop and ArcGIS Server, Quantum GIS, Postgresql/PostGIS and SQL Server
