How to Apply
Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications or certifications are typically required for a General Worker role in Namibia?
Most employers require at least a Grade 10 or 12 certificate, with preference given to candidates who hold relevant vocational training (e.g., NQF Level 2–3 certificates from NTA-accredited institutions like ISET or Polytechnics). Basic safety certifications such as OHS Act awareness or manual handling training are increasingly expected, especially in construction or logistics operations.
What does a typical day look like for a General Worker in Namibian operations roles?
Daily tasks often include loading/unloading goods, maintaining site cleanliness, assisting skilled tradespeople, operating basic machinery (e.g., pallet jacks), and following safety protocols aligned with Namibia’s Occupational Safety and Health Act. Work hours usually follow standard business hours (07:30–16:30), though shift work may apply in manufacturing or logistics hubs like Walvis Bay or Windhoek industrial zones.
How does Namibian work culture influence expectations for General Workers?
Respect for hierarchy, punctuality, and strong interpersonal communication — often in English or local languages like Oshiwambo or Afrikaans — are highly valued. Employers expect reliability, willingness to learn, and adherence to both formal workplace rules and informal cultural norms, such as greeting supervisors and team members respectfully each day.
What career progression opportunities exist for General Workers in Namibia?
With experience and additional NQF-aligned training (e.g., forklift licence, welding, or supervisory courses), workers can advance to roles like Team Leader, Storekeeper, or Assistant Supervisor — particularly in growing sectors like mining services, logistics, or public infrastructure projects. Some employers support learnerships through the Namibia Training Authority (NTA) to facilitate upward mobility.
What benefits are commonly offered to General Workers in Namibia?
Legally mandated benefits include 21 days of annual leave, sick leave as per the Labour Act, and access to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). Many formal-sector employers also offer medical aid schemes (often shared-cost), pension contributions via private funds, and transport or meal allowances — though coverage varies significantly by employer size and sector.
How should I apply for a General Worker role like 'Trending Talent', and what do Namibian employers prioritise?
Submit a clear CV with verified contact details and references to HR departments or recruitment platforms like Careers.na or LinkedIn Namibia; always include proof of ID and academic certificates. Employers prioritise verifiable work history, reliability (e.g., consistent employment gaps explained), basic literacy/numeracy, and alignment with Namibia’s Employment Equity goals — especially youth, women, and persons with disabilities.
