Salary scale : N$220,828 – N$263,911
Housing allowance : N$13,080 per annum
Transport allowance : N$7, 6 80 per annum
Minimum requirements: An appropriate 4-year B.Sc. or B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Natural
Resource Management (Nature Conservation) or Forestry or Environmental Biology or
equivalent qualification at NQF Level 8 with Botany as a subject and a strong interest in plant
taxonomy. An appropriate Masters qualification would serve as an advantage. A valid
driver’s license (Code B / BE) and experience in botanical fieldwork would serve as an
advantage. Computer literacy extending beyond the ordinary office packages to include
GIS applications, multivariate statistical packages used in plant taxonomy as well as
databases will be an added advantage.
Overall responsibilities:
Responsibilities linked to this position will include scientific and physical curation of the
herbarium collection; contributing to the writing of the Flora of Namibia; the capturing,
analysis and management of herbarium specimen data; the publication of research results;
providing identification and information services to users; planning and conducting field work
in remote rural areas; supervision of technical staff; mentoring of students; input to
institutional budget. Liaison with national and international stakeholders will be an integral
part of this position.
