Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the development and implementation of the environmental management systems by operational departments (Exploration, Mining, Processing and Engineering) across all CCC mining operations in Namibia to ensure full compliance with Namibian legislation, international best practice (including ISO 14001), and CCC’s sustainability and community commitments.
- Ensure that the company is safeguarded from environmental non-compliance risks.
- Ensure correct monitoring and reporting.
- Proactively manage environmental impacts (water, air, soil, biodiversity).
- Support mine closure planning.
- Lead community and regulatory engagement linked to the operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science / Environmental Management.
- 7-8 years environmental management experience in mining/processing environments;
- 3 years supervisory experience
- The Environmental Manager is a legal appointment
- In-depth knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and best-practice implementation methods.
- Strong understanding of Namibian environmental legislation, permitting processes, and regulatory reporting obligations (MET, MAW&F, MME, local authorities).
- Technical knowledge of environmental monitoring methodologies, including groundwater, surface water, air emissions, dust, soil, noise, and biodiversity assessments.
- Knowledge of mine closure planning, progressive rehabilitation techniques, land-use transition, and financial provisioning models.
- Familiarity with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes, scoping studies, baseline data collection, and stakeholder consultation.
- Understanding of sustainability and ESG frameworks, including carbon reduction strategies, renewable energy integration, and water stewardship approaches.
- Knowledge of risk management principles, incident investigation methods, and Trigger Action Response Plans (TARPs).
- Working knowledge of GIS systems, environmental databases, laboratory data interpretation, and trend analysis techniques.
- Candidates must be Namibian citizens or holders of Namibian permanent residence permits and should hold a valid Code B (08) driver’s license.
