The Roads Authority (RA) was established in terms of Section 2 of the RA Act, Act no. 17 of 1999. The Authority fully became operational on 1 April 2000. The RA is responsible for the management of the national road network with a view of achieving a safe and efficient road sector.

| Primary Purpose | Responsible for planning, leading, organizing and controlling projects within the Network Development division by translating organizational strategic objectives into tangible outcomes through the execution of annual work plans, active participation in the planning and organization of required financial and human resources and control whilst providing leadership and oversight for the subsection. |
