CORE NETWORK MANAGER

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Telecommunications is commonly required, with preference for candidates holding vendor-specific certifications such as Cisco CCNP or CCIE Routing & Switching, or Huawei HCIP/HCIE. Many Namibian employers also value local accreditation from the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) and practical experience with legacy and modern core network infrastructure used by Namibian telecom providers like MTC or Telecom Namibia.

You’ll monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise core network performance—especially IP/MPLS, BGP, and routing protocols—across national backbone infrastructure, often coordinating with NOC teams and external vendors. Daily tasks include change management during maintenance windows aligned with Namibia Standard Time, responding to outages affecting rural and urban connectivity, and preparing reports for compliance with the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN).

Namibian IT workplaces emphasise relationship-based collaboration, respect for seniority, and clear communication across multilingual teams—English is standard, but awareness of local languages like Oshiwambo or Afrikaans supports stakeholder engagement. Punctuality and formal reporting structures are valued, and flexibility is expected during national events or load-shedding-related incidents that impact network uptime.

With experience, you may advance to Senior Network Architect, Head of Infrastructure, or ICT Director roles—particularly within telecoms, government ICT units (e.g., NAMFISA or Ministry of ICT), or large parastatals. Upskilling in cloud integration (AWS/Azure networking), cybersecurity (CISSP), or CRAN regulatory frameworks strengthens long-term mobility, especially as Namibia expands its National Broadband Strategy and digital transformation initiatives.
