How to Apply
Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications and certifications are typically required for a Core Network Manager role in Namibia?
A bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science is commonly required, often supplemented by vendor-specific certifications like Cisco CCNP/CCIE or Nokia NRS II/III. In Namibia, employers also value local accreditation from the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) and practical experience with legacy and modern core infrastructure used by regional operators.
What does a typical day look like for a Core Network Manager working for a Namibian telecommunications provider?
Daily responsibilities include monitoring core network performance (e.g., MSC, SGSN, MME, EPC), coordinating incident resolution with NOC teams, and implementing configuration changes during approved maintenance windows aligned with Namibia’s standard business hours (07:30–17:00). Collaboration with local regulators like the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) on compliance matters and interfacing with regional vendors is also routine.
How does workplace culture and professional expectations differ for network engineering roles in Namibia compared to other countries?
Namibian telecom workplaces emphasise relationship-based communication, respect for hierarchy, and consensus-driven decision-making — especially when coordinating across departments like Operations, IT, and CRAN liaison. Punctuality, formal dress codes in office settings, and adherence to public holidays (e.g., Independence Day, Heroes’ Day) are widely observed and expected.
What realistic career progression paths exist for a Core Network Manager in Namibia’s telecom sector?
Progression often leads to Senior Core Network Architect, Head of Network Operations, or Technical Director roles — typically requiring 5+ years’ local experience and exposure to multi-vendor environments common in Southern Africa. Some professionals transition into regulatory advisory roles with CRAN or pursue regional opportunities with SADC-based operators after gaining cross-border project experience.
What benefits (leave, medical aid, pension) are typically offered to Core Network Managers in Namibian telecom companies?
Employers generally provide at least 22 days of annual leave, statutory sick leave, and participation in the Namibian National Pension Fund (NPF) or an approved private pension scheme. Medical aid is commonly offered through registered Namibian schemes like NAMAF or Medshield, with employer contributions varying by company policy and collective bargaining agreements.
How should I apply for a Core Network Manager role in Namibia, and what do employers specifically look for in candidates?
Applications are usually submitted via company websites or LinkedIn, with emphasis on Namibian work permits (if applicable), verified local references, and evidence of hands-on experience with technologies deployed in the region (e.g., Huawei, Ericsson, or Nokia core platforms). Employers prioritise candidates who demonstrate CRAN compliance awareness, problem-solving in low-bandwidth or remote-site contexts, and fluency in English plus at least one local language such as Oshiwambo or Afrikaans.
