Duty Description
Responsible for the preparation, cooking and serving of breakfast/lunch and dinner
dishes and the display thereof. Ensure that all guests are treated courteously and served promptly in accordance with hotel standards and procedures.

A Commis Chef assists a section chef, also known as a Chef de Partie. The role is made up of many
varying responsibilities including assisting in the food preparation process, cooking and preparing elements
of high quality dishes, to ensure that standards of food quality and presentation are met at all times, whilst
reducing wastage and controlling costs. To ensure that a courteous and efficient service is provided to the guest in line with the Company’s vision, values and fundamentals.

Duty Requirement(s)
Grade 12 / Equivalent. National Certificate (Vocational): Hospitality (NQF Level 4, SAQA registered) / CATHSSETA Professional Cookery (NQF Level 4, SAQA registered) – has obtained some form of recognised culinary qualification.Higher Certificate in Food & Beverage Operations Management (NQF Level 5) is advantageous. Culinary related Diploma is advantageous.
