How to Apply
Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications do I need to become a Clothing Production L3-L4 Instructor in Namibia?
You typically need a National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Clothing Production, or Textile Technology from a recognized institution like NUST or IUM. A Vocational Instructor's Certificate or Assessor/Moderator qualification registered with NQA is usually required. Practical industry experience of 3-5 years in garment manufacturing is highly valued by Namibian vocational training centres.
What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of this role?
You will prepare and deliver practical and theoretical lessons aligned with NQA Level 3-4 curricula for clothing production. Daily tasks include demonstrating sewing techniques, pattern making, and fabric handling while assessing student portfolios and practical work. You will also maintain workshop equipment and ensure compliance with safety standards in the training environment.
How does the work culture differ in Namibian vocational training centres compared to private industry?
Namibian VTCs operate with structured academic calendars and emphasize student-centred learning over production targets. Collegiality with fellow instructors and adherence to government reporting requirements are expected. Punctuality and professional documentation of learner progress are highly valued in this public-funded education sector.
What career progression opportunities exist for vocational instructors in Namibia?
Instructors can advance to Senior Instructor, Head of Department, or Centre Manager positions with experience and additional qualifications. Some transition to curriculum development roles at NQA or the Namibia Training Authority. Others establish private training consultancies or pursue further studies to lecture at university level.
What benefits are typically offered for full-time instructor positions in Namibian VTCs?
Benefits usually include annual leave of 20-30 days, sick leave, and participation in government pension schemes such as GIPF. Medical aid contributions vary by employer type—government-affiliated centres often offer better coverage than private institutions. Some centres provide professional development allowances for further studies.
How should I apply for this role and what do Namibian employers look for?
Submit a comprehensive CV, certified copies of qualifications, and a detailed cover letter addressing the specific job requirements. Employers prioritize demonstrated practical skills, so include a portfolio of garments produced or industry references. Register your qualifications with the Namibia Qualifications Authority and obtain police clearance, as these are standard requirements for education positions.
