CHIEF POLICY ANALYST – GRADE 6 – Ministry of Finance

Public sector roles emphasize hierarchical decision-making, adherence to Public Service Act regulations, and longer timelines for policy implementation due to cabinet approval processes. Private sector and NGO positions typically offer more flexibility but demand faster turnaround on deliverables and stronger fundraising or business development skills. Both sectors value punctuality, respect for seniority, and fluency in English with working knowledge of local languages.

In government, progression leads to Director or Deputy Permanent Secretary positions within the Ministry of Finance, Industrialization, or National Planning Commission. In research institutions, you may advance to Executive Director or lead country office roles for organizations like the Bank of Namibia or NEPRU. Some analysts transition to international organizations such as the World Bank or AfDB, or establish private consulting firms serving government clients.

Government positions include membership in the Government Institutions Pension Fund, medical aid through PSEMAS or private schemes, and 30 days annual leave plus public holidays.
