Key Responsibilities
- Perform a comprehensive range of cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures – both open and minimally invasive – including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve surgery, lung and mediastinal surgery, and management of chest trauma.
- Conduct pre-operative assessments, obtain informed consent and develop individualised surgical plans.
- Provide post-operative and critical-care management in the ICU and surgical wards.
- Participate in the on-call roster and provide emergency cover as required.
- Collaborate with cardiology, anaesthetics, intensive-care, radiology and allied clinical teams to deliver integrated peri-operative care.
- Contribute to clinical governance, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality-improvement initiatives (ISO 9001:2015).
- Participate in the training and mentorship of medical officers and nursing staff.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in line with HPCNA and hospital standards.
Requirements
- MBChB or equivalent primary medical qualification.
- Recognised specialist qualification in Cardiothoracic Surgery – FC(CTS)SA, MMed(Cardiothoracic Surgery) or equivalent.
- Current registration with the Health Professions Council of Namibia (HPCNA) as a specialist Cardiothoracic Surgeon (or eligibility to register).
- Demonstrable post-specialisation surgical experience, with a proven track record of independent operating.
- Excellent clinical judgement, technical skills and peri-operative decision-making.
- Strong communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
