About the Company
The National Housing Enterprise (NHE) is a Namibian state-owned enterprise headquartered in Windhoek, mandated to develop and deliver affordable housing solutions across the country. It implements national housing policies in partnership with government institutions, municipalities, and private sector stakeholders such as Telecom Namibia. NHE focuses on sustainable, low-to-middle-income housing projects, land development, and infrastructure provision within Namibia’s urban and peri-urban areas. Its operations are grounded in the Namibian Housing Act and aligned with the National Development Plans of the Government of the Republic of Namibia.

Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications or certifications are typically required for a Branch Administrator role at the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) in Namibia?
Applicants usually need a National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Business Management, or a related field from a Namibian-accredited institution such as NUST or UNAM. Relevant short courses in office management, records management, or public administration — especially those offered by the Namibia Training Authority (NTA) — are highly regarded. Prior experience in government or parastatal administration is often preferred but not always mandatory for entry-level appointments.
What does a typical day look like for a Branch Administrator working with NHE in Namibia?
Daily tasks include managing branch correspondence, maintaining statutory and housing project records, coordinating meetings and reports for regional managers, and supporting client-facing services such as housing application processing and documentation verification. You’ll also liaise with local authorities, contractors, and community representatives — reflecting NHE’s mandate to deliver affordable housing across regions like Khomas, Erongo, or Oshana. Strong adherence to Namibia’s Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Records Management Act is expected in all administrative functions.
How does the work culture and professional expectations for Branch Administrators differ in Namibian public sector organisations like NHE compared to private companies?
Namibian public sector roles emphasise procedural compliance, accountability, and service delivery aligned with national development goals such as Vision 2030 and the Harambee Prosperity Plan. Respect for hierarchy, punctuality, and formal communication — including proper use of official letterheads and bilingual (English/Oshiwambo or Afrikaans) interactions where appropriate — are culturally embedded expectations. Teamwork is valued, but decision-making often follows structured reporting lines and documented approvals per government norms.
What realistic career progression opportunities exist for a Branch Administrator within NHE or similar Namibian state-owned enterprises?
With proven performance and further study (e.g., a postgraduate certificate in Public Administration or Project Management), you may progress to Senior Branch Administrator, Regional Operations Officer, or transition into roles like Housing Programme Coordinator. Some administrators move laterally into internal audit, procurement support, or human resources units within NHE or other parastatals like Nampower or NamWater. Continuous professional development through institutions like the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (NIPAM) strengthens promotion prospects.
What standard benefits — such as leave, medical aid, and pension — can a Branch Administrator expect when employed by NHE in Namibia?
NHE staff are covered under the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) and entitled to 20–30 days of annual leave, sick leave, and family responsibility leave as stipulated in the Namibian Labour Act. Medical aid is typically provided through a government-approved scheme such as GEMS or a comparable provider, with contributions shared between employee and employer. Maternity and paternity leave follow national legislation, and housing allowance or transport assistance may be included depending on current collective agreements.
How do I apply for a Branch Administrator position at NHE, and what do Namibian employers specifically look for in candidates?
Vacancies are advertised on the NHE website, Government Gazette, and platforms like JobMail Namibia or the Ministry of Public Service’s portal; applications must include certified copies of qualifications, ID, and a detailed CV aligned with the job description. Employers prioritise candidates with demonstrable experience in public sector administration, knowledge of Namibian housing policy frameworks (e.g., the National Housing Policy), and strong written English skills — as well as integrity, reliability, and community engagement awareness. Shortlisted applicants often undergo competency-based interviews conducted by a panel including HR and line managers.
