How to Apply
Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications do I need to become an Assistant Lodge Manager in Namibia?
Most employers look for a diploma or degree in hospitality management, tourism, or business administration, though extensive lodge experience can substitute for formal education. First aid certification and a valid Namibian driver's licence are often required, especially at remote lodges. Additional training in food safety or guest relations is a plus.
What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of an Assistant Lodge Manager?
You would support the Lodge Manager with daily operations including guest check-ins and check-outs, supervising housekeeping, kitchen, and maintenance staff, and handling guest complaints. Administrative duties such as stock control, staff scheduling, and reporting are also common. At remote lodges, you may also assist with procurement and coordinating supplies from nearby towns.
What work culture and expectations should I be aware of in Namibian lodges?
Namibian lodges often operate in remote areas where staff live on-site, so flexibility with working hours, including weekends and peak tourist seasons, is expected. Teamwork across departments is highly valued due to small staff complements. Punctuality, professionalism with international guests, and respect for local community relationships are strongly emphasised.
What career progression can I expect in this role?
Assistant Lodge Managers typically progress to Lodge Manager positions after gaining two to five years of experience, often moving between lodges within the same group. Some advance into regional management, operations management, or general manager roles covering multiple properties. Others branch into tourism consulting or open their own guesthouses.
What benefits are commonly offered for this position in Namibia?
Common benefits include accommodation and meals on-site (especially valuable at remote lodges), annual leave, and medical aid contributions. Many employers also provide pension fund contributions as required by Namibian labour law. Live-in arrangements significantly reduce living costs, which is worth considering when evaluating offers.
How do I apply, and what do employers in Namibia look for?
Applications usually require a CV, cover letter, certified copies of qualifications, and references, submitted via email or through the company's careers page. Employers prioritise candidates with prior lodge or hospitality experience, strong English communication skills, and willingness to relocate to remote areas. Demonstrating knowledge of Namibia's tourism landscape gives you an advantage.
