ASSIST VOTER EDUCATION (VOTER & CIVIC EDUCATION) – Electoral Commission of Namibia

Most employers require a minimum of a Grade 12 certificate, though a diploma or degree in Education, Political Science, Public Administration, or Sociology is highly preferred. Experience in community mobilization or previous volunteer work with civil society organizations strengthens your application significantly.

Daily tasks include assisting in developing educational materials, facilitating workshops in communities and schools, distributing voter information pamphlets, and collecting feedback from outreach activities. You will also support logistics for civic education campaigns and maintain records of engagement sessions across different regions.

Namibian workplaces value respect for hierarchy, punctuality, and strong community relationships, so building trust with diverse populations is essential. Employers expect flexibility for field travel to rural areas, proficiency in local languages like Oshiwambo or Afrikaans alongside English, and adherence to ethical standards given the sensitive political nature of voter education work.

Successful interns often advance to Programme Officer roles in electoral management bodies, civic education coordinator positions within NGOs, or policy research roles in governance institutions. The experience also provides a foundation for pursuing permanent positions with the Electoral Commission of Namibia, UNDP governance projects, or academic pathways in political science and public administration.

Internships usually provide a modest stipend to cover transport and meals, though full benefits like medical aid and pension contributions are rare unless the position converts to permanent employment. Some larger NGOs and international organizations may offer limited health coverage or professional development allowances, but terms vary considerably by employer.

Submit applications through official channels such as the Electoral Commission of Namibia website, newspaper advertisements in The Namibian or New Era, or directly to established NGOs like the Institute for Public Policy Research. Employers prioritize demonstrated community engagement experience, strong written and verbal communication skills, political neutrality, and willingness to work irregular hours including weekends during election periods.
