Key Responsibilities

• Assess the condition of equipment, structures, piping and fabricated components. Identify the cause and extent of defects.
• Conduct the required risk assessment before commencing work. Determine the appropriate method, tools, materials and equipment required for the repair.
• Carry out repairs in accordance with approved specifications and safe working procedures.
• Test and inspect completed work where applicable.
• Report completed work and outstanding defects to the Foreman.
• Measure, mark, cut, fit and assemble materials accurately.
• Fabricate and repair plant structures, brackets, supports, guards, chutes and other components as required.
• Perform welding and related hot-work activities in accordance with approved procedures and specifications.
• Use welding machines, cutting equipment, grinders, drills and other tools safely and correctly.
• Inspect completed work to ensure acceptable quality and dimensional accuracy.
• Measure and lay out pipework according to drawings, specifications and site requirements.
• Cut, prepare, fit, align and install piping and associated components.
• Ensure correct positioning, dimensions and alignment of pipework.
• Identify and report defects or deviations requiring further attention.
• Perform scheduled maintenance tasks according to maintenance plans and work instructions.
• Inspect structures, piping and fabricated components for wear, damage or deterioration.
• Identify potential failures and report required corrective action.
• Complete maintenance tasks within the required timeframes.
• Ensure maintenance activities are recorded accurately.
• Ensure accurate and timeous completion of job cards.
• Record work performed, materials used and relevant equipment information.
• Ensure accurate and timeous completion of timesheets/clocking.
• Where no Storeman is available, ensure that spares and materials used are accurately recorded on the applicable job card.
• Conduct and participate in applicable risk assessments before commencing work.
• Adhere to all Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, company policies, procedures and standards.
• Comply with permit-to-work, isolation and other applicable safety requirements.
• Apply safe working practices when performing welding, cutting, grinding, lifting and other maintenance activities.
• Ensure appropriate PPE is worn and always maintained.
• Inspect tools and equipment before use and report defective equipment.
• Maintain appropriate fire prevention and hot-work controls.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses and equipment defects to the relevant supervisor.
• Keep the work area, tools and equipment clean and orderly.
• Remove scrap materials and waste after completion of work.
• Ensure the work area/workbench is cleaned and left in a safe condition after completion of the job.
• Supervise and guide assistants according to company training standards.
• Deliver on-the-job training as needed.
• Attend to emergency callouts promptly.
• Provide accurate and timeous feedback after any call-out.
• Maintain availability and readiness during standby periods.

Requirements

• Grade 12 Grade 12 (NQF 4) and a recognized Trade Certificate in the relevant trade (Boilermaker).
• Minimum 3 years’ post-trade experience in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment.
• Driver’s License.
• Be able to do design and layout of pipes.
• Be able to work overtime, standby, callouts & at external depots when required.
• Namibian citizen.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Proficient in English (written and spoken).
