Commissioning Technician
Walvis Bay
The Position
Reporting to the Service Section Manager, the successful incumbent will be responsible for the quality assurance and class requirement when engines are overhauled or repaired onboard vessels. He/she will also be responsible for building and maintaining excellent customer relationships.
Key Accountabilities
• Working in close relationship with the Field Service Supervisor for Energy and Transportation
• Present onboard vessels during manne engine overhauls and repairs in the capacity leading, overseeing, coaching, and training the field service team ensuring the quality aspect is adhered, service warranties are eliminated, and the customer satisfied
• Ensuring all marine engines are thoroughly commissioned and tested alter overhauls and repairs
• Maintaining the quality assurance documentation and document control systems with manne engine overhauls and repairs
• Ensuring prompt turnaround time for inspection, finding, and commissioning reports as per the customer’s expectation
• Providing expert technical support to the field service team for warranty resolution through 1 hour training sessions
• Technical expert carrying out applied failure analysis on failed manne engines together with compiling of informative technical finding reports
• Managing product problems and service letter execution on manne engines
• Working in dose cooperation with regional technical department and the Central Service Engineering Department for quick issue resolution
• Supporting and implementing condition monitoring practices with customers
Qualification and Experience
• Qualified diesel mechanic with a trade diploma with minimum 5 years’ experience in the Caterpillar manne engine field
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, fuel systems and electronic engine control systems
• Experience in troubleshooting and diagnosing manne engine systems
• Experience in overhauling and commissioning marine engines
• Solid understanding of oil analysis interpretation
• Good understanding of Cat warranty
• Good understanding of the class requirements regarding maritime equipment
• Sound knowledge of Caterpillar portals and tools; SIS. SIMCS, Campar. Trident. RFV etc
• Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and public holidays
• Must be prepared to work offshore accommodated on vessels/oil rigs for long periods of time and must be prepared to temporally work in other countries
• Must be able to cope under pressure and varying workloads
• Must be strong leader, a good coach and trainer supporting the Field Service Supervisor in developing exceptional skills in the manne field service team
• Valid driver’s license
