• Grade 12 with Maths plus 5-10 years experience in the chemical field
• 5-10 years’ experience in a management position, including managing/ leading a group of people
• Knowledge of the different laws (Labour. Safety)
• 3 years’ minimum experience in commodity surveying, specific to metals and minerals
• Knowledge of sampling methodology
• Knowledge of general business software and aptitude to learn new applications; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word. Excel. Outlook)
Key Responsibility
• Inspecting and/or weighing of commodities and loading of containers at client’s premises/warehouses/
• Overseeing sampling of commodities at the various warehouses
• Liaise with the Operations Manager to ensure that the following contingencies are met; staff shortages as a result of leaver, illness, holidays, equipment malfunction/breakdown peaking or growth of work volume in the operations, re-prioritizing of significant amounts of sampling work
• Ensuring that the workforce is sufficiently motivated, skilled, and properly trained to meet the operational needs of the business. It is the post holder’s responsibility to inform the Operations Manager of continual resourcing difficulties and/or operational problems
• Ensuring at all times that a high degree of accuracy and precision is applied to sampling/surveying through incorporating and promoting good sampling practice principles and ensuring that work throughput is followed in accordance with documented procedures (SOP’s) and methods. It is the post holder’s responsibility to inform the Manager of any failure in compliance to documented methods
• Providing technical advice and support to the site staff as required, on technical or operational problems, acting in a “trouble shooting” capacity to subordinates
• Advising the Manager of repetitive technical problems relating to the day to day sampling procedures
• Communicate and report any staff issues to the Manager which may include punctuality, attendance and training issues
• Maintaining record keeping, such that work is clearly and easily auditable, and traceable within the guidelines of AHK
• Preparation and completion of shift sheets for each job on a daily basis
• Reporting on ongoing and waiting appointments on a daily basis so that the Administration team to send timely job updates to clients
• Uploading job photos to the respective folders on the shared server, on a daily basis for easy access and identification by the Administrators
• Perform daily checks on tally sheets or handing it to the Administration team
• Proper job planning based on the warehouse’s daily planning, ensuring that adequate staff is booked for operations taking place on a daily basis
• Completion of timesheets on a daily basis and submitting these to the Branch Manager on a weekly basis for capturing
• Compilingsampling plans prior to the commencement of a job and submitting them to the Branch Manager for checking and sign-off
• Completion of the Sample Reception Register for all samples delivered to the Sample Preparation team
• Completion of the Sample Disposal Register for all samples removed from the Sample Preparation area prior to disposal/return to warehouses
• Ensuring that consumable levels are maintained, reporting to the Branch Manager when consumable re-order levels are reached
• Treat and/or maintain company equipment with appropriate care and attention
• Assist personnel in the sample prep area when not occupied with sampling related work
• Follow instructions from your superiors
• Consult with the Branch Manager with regards to Disciplinary Action to be taken against subordinates
• Observe the features and marks of commodities handled
• Record all information and discrepancies neatly and accurately, and report timeously in accordance with deadlines and client requirements
• Assist senior staff, supervise junior staff and work with outside parties to the benefit of clients and the company
• Act in accordance with the standard procedures and professional integrity of the company
• Respect and maintain confidentiality regarding clients, locations and commodities being handled
• Other ad hoc dutiesas may be requested by the Branch Manager/Operations Manager or General Manager from time to time
