The Position
The successful incumbent will be responsible for driving, collecting, and delivering documents, supplies and specimen for the organisation.
Key focus areas:
Collections and Deliveries
• Put ice in specimen hampers.
• Collect specimen results from the dispatch office / reception at branch laboratories.
• Deliver results to and collect specimen from doctors and state clinics.
• Deliver specimens between laboratories.
• Transport staff members to and from laboratories, Head Office, banks, and any other destination upon instructions.
• Deliver insurance results to the insurance companies.
• Transport people to service providers to get quotations.
• Transport equipment to the relevant service providers for repairs and collect it again afterwards.
Maintenance of Vehicles
• Daily inspection of vehicles by checking tyres, wheels, tools, etc, before daily duties commence.
• Keep vehicle in a clean and tidy condition by washing it regularly.
• Identify and report any defects on the vehicle to the supervisor and write report upon instruction.
• Get quotations for services and repairs on vehicles and submit to supervisor. Take vehicles to the service provider for service or repairs.
• Book regular services for vehicles when due.
• In case of an accident, report the accident immediately to supervisor and the nearest police station.
Safety and Security
• Take vehicle to lockup parking area at end of day or shift. Ensure that no lights are left on and that the steering wheel is locked with a steering
lock. Lock the gate of the parking area.
• Ensure that all specimens are taken out of the hampers and leave hampers at the reception area.
• Leave vehicle key at dispatch, chemistry department or TIC office at branch laboratories.
Administration
• Complete the logbook as required and lock up vehicle for safe keeping. Take log sheet to dispatch/TIC office in the morning for filing.
• Collect a petrol card from Admin or TIC Office and completes the petrol card form.
• Fill up vehicle when the fuel level is low, take card back to the Admin or TIC Office and complete the relevant forms.
• Hand receipts to Admin or TIC Office together with the card and ensure that both parties sign the form.
Occupational health and safety
• Ensure that precautionary measures are taken when working with biological hazardous material by adhering to the Safety Protocol.
• Wear protective clothing when handling specimens and other medical supplies to prevent contamination.
Cost containment
• Keep operating costs relating to own duties to a minimum, therefore striving towards optimal cost effectiveness.
Service delivery
• Ensure that mobile phones are charged and on standby mode at all times.
• Ensure that no patients or private people are transported in company vehicles.
• Work and operate within the Transport Policy of the company.
• Work overtime (through day and night) when required.
General
• Attend to all the relevant meetings and provide supervisor with regular feedback and reports on activities.
• Perform ad hoc tasks within the job scope upon request from supervisor.
• Ensure confidentiality of all information and documentation at all times.
The Person
Minimum requirements
• A grade 12 certificate obtained before 2004 with 20 (twenty) points in 5 (five) subjects and an F in English.
• A valid code B driver’s license with a clean criminal record.
• At least two (2) years’ driving experience.
Required skills.
• Proficient in written and spoken English, effective communication skills, interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, time management skills, and driving skills.
• Physically able and healthy, patient, flexible, sober habits, willingness to work beyond office hours and in all weather conditions.
