Lecturer: Regional and Rural Development
Requirements
A Master’s degree (NQF Level 9) in Regional Development/ Rural Development/ Spatial
Planning or related equivalent qualification with at least four (4) years of lecturing and/or
industry experience and/or an equivalent combination of relevant professional experience.
Excellent English communication skills (oral and written). Competence to teach at least
three (3) of the following courses/subject areas at both under-graduate and post-graduate
levels: Rural Development Planning, Community Development, Development Economics and
Statistics, Rural Development Methods and Practice, Regional Development Interventions,
Research Methodology, and application of Spatial Analysis Software (e.g. GIS). Competence to establish professional networks, maintain links with the industry, and experience in curriculum development. A credible record of lecturing, peer-reviewed publications, community engagement, supervision of students (research) under-graduate level.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Teach, assess, and develop curriculum, conduct community service, and administration. Supervise research (projects and/or thesis) at undergraduate levels;
conduct research and publish in accredited journals; source for research or project funding; establish professional networks with industry and universities
and partake in Department, Faculty and/or University Committees.
