PROJECT ARCHITECT – Marley Tjitjo Architects Inc.

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture accredited by the Namibian Qualifications Authority (NQA) is essential. Registration with the Namibian Institute of Architects (NIA) and the Namibian Council for Architects and Quantity Surveyors (NCAQS) is mandatory to practice independently. Candidates must also complete the NCAQS professional practice examination and log required practical experience under supervision.

Daily tasks include coordinating with clients, contractors, and consultants; preparing drawings and specifications compliant with Namibian building regulations and SANS standards; and conducting site inspections across urban and semi-rural locations. Project Architects often manage documentation for submissions to local authorities such as the City of Windhoek or regional councils, and adapt designs to local climatic conditions and material availability.

Namibian architecture firms value strong interpersonal skills, respect for hierarchical communication, and responsiveness to client and community consultation—especially on public or communal projects. Punctuality, reliability, and cultural awareness—including sensitivity to diverse ethnic and linguistic groups—are expected, and flexibility is often needed when coordinating across multiple sites and stakeholders in both formal and informal settlement contexts.

With 5–7 years’ experience and full NCAQS registration, professionals often advance to Senior Project Architect or Associate roles, taking on larger public infrastructure or housing projects. Long-term paths include becoming a Principal Architect, starting a registered practice (subject to NCAQS licensing), or moving into public sector roles such as with the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development or the Namibia Housing Corporation.
