JUNIOR DATA ENGINEER – Metro

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is commonly required, with preference for candidates holding local or internationally recognised certifications like Google Data Engineering or AWS Certified Data Analytics – Associate. Some employers in Namibia also value practical experience gained through local internships, NUST projects, or participation in Namibian tech initiatives such as the Namibia ICT Innovation Hub.

You’ll likely assist in building and maintaining ETL pipelines, cleaning and validating data from local sources (e.g., municipal systems or utility databases), and supporting database administration under supervision. Collaboration with local IT teams and occasional coordination with government or parastatal stakeholders—common in Metro contexts—is expected, often using tools like Python, SQL, and cloud platforms accessible in Namibia.

Namibian workplaces generally emphasise respect for hierarchy and relationship-building, with team decisions often discussed collectively and senior input valued. Punctuality and formal communication are expected, especially when interfacing with public-sector partners; however, flexibility may be extended during national events or community obligations common in local practice.

With 2–4 years of experience and upskilling in areas like cloud infrastructure or real-time analytics, you can progress to Data Engineer, BI Developer, or Solutions Architect roles—particularly within growing sectors like utilities, finance, or government digital transformation. Local employers increasingly support professional development through sponsorships for certifications or part-time study at institutions like UNAM or NUST.
