ROLE BRIEF: The Head Construction Manager’s job is to
• work with the Country Manager in the evaluation/appraisal of suitable site acquisitions
• leading the design team in the planning, design and implementation of an approved residential
scheme, and
• supervising the successful delivery within time and budget of multiple construction projects
An excellent Construction Project Manager must be professionally qualified with not less than 15 years post qualification experience. The successful candidate must be well-versed in all relevant construction methodologies and procedures and able to coordinate and lead a team of professionals and external providers of different disciplines to achieve the best results.
The ideal candidate will have an analytical mind, superb organizational skill and an ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
The goal will be to ensure all projects are delivered on time according to requirements, good quality and without exceeding budget.
REPORTING TO: Country Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collaborate with engineers, architects etc. to determine the specifications of the project
• Prepare, along with our architect the BOQ of any given project
• Negotiate contracts with external vendors to reach profitable agreements
• Obtain permits and licenses from appropriate authorities
• Determine needed resources (manpower, equipment and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations
• Plan all construction operations and schedule intermediate phases to ensure deadlines will be met
• Acquire equipment and material and monitor stocks to timely handle inadequacies
• Hire and manage contractors and other staff and allocate responsibilities
• Supervise the work of laborers, mechanics etc. and give them guidance when needed
• Evaluate progress and prepare detailed reports
• Implement strong oversight and control
• Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and report issues
REQUIREMENTS:
• Proven experience as construction project manager, managing multiple projects
• Proven experience in a managerial capacity on residential construction projects
• In-depth understanding of construction procedures and material and sound project management principles
• Familiarity with quality and health and safety standards
• Good knowledge of MS Office and one or more project management software packages
• Familiarity with construction/ project management software
• Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• A team player with leadership abilities
• Minimum qualification of a BSc/BA in engineering, building science or relevant field
• Driver License
