Duties & Responsibilities
Generating and Growing Income
Grow existing income streams:
- Analyse income reports and sales reports
- Analyse market share reports
- Identify trends and movements in sales channels
- Identify problems affecting sales negatively and take corrective action
- Inspiring / encouraging sales staff
Identify new income streams:
- Identify new sales points e.g., Agents, new office locations
- Identify new routes / departure times / connecting routes
- Identify new / untapped markets (e.g., festivals, religious travellers, sporting, or cultural events)
Drive local marketing:
- Ensure sufficient marketing material and supplies (e.g., ticket covers, ticket stock) at all outlets in area
- Ensure correctness of displays in offices and at agent outlets (incl. TVs)
- Analysing how other companies / industries market their products and services
- Gauge responses rates to advertisements e.g., by running competitions
- Make use of annual and monthly storyboards to assist in planning
- Identify new marketing channels
- Be vigilant in controlling distribution of marketing materials e.g., leaflets (instil checks)
- Make informed recommendations for national campaigns pro-actively
- Identify and manage barter agreements aimed at promoting Intercape’s services
- Identify, plan and coordinate Intercape’s participation in local events
- Demonstrate products and services to stakeholders (e.g. by taking coaches on a road show to agents)
Ensure that the company builds and maintains a positive brand in the marketplace:
- Setting an example of living the shareholders and company vision, mission, values and purpose.
- Embracing and living the fundamentals of the company: safe, dependable and affordable
- Positively portraying company image
- Sticking to the principle of punctuality at all times
- Set an example of positive use of language
- Avoid uncontrolled conflict
- Maintain a positive and professional image in all on-line and electronic communication
Actively support agent debt collection
- Receive accurate and regular account information from the finance team about each agent within his/her area of responsibility. The finance team will specifically notify the rep of agent accounts at risk, or accounts overdue, on a regular and timely basis.
- Proactively communicate with agents about account issues, accounts at risk, and overdue accounts, in order to resolve issues and ensure collection of outstanding amounts.
- Provide timely and accurate feedback to Intercape Finance and Legal teams as required to support debt collecting efforts.
Providing Marketing Intelligence
- Collect information (such as competition movements, prices, promotions, buying trends, passenger feedback) according to generally accepted research techniques and standards
- Analyse data
- Share the findings / trends in the most applicable (or prescribed) format
- Propose solutions (act on findings) or lead others to action
- Ensure that Office Supervisors collect and report the required qualitative management intelligence
Establishing and Maintaining Relationships
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with each of the following, by spending time frequently, communicating effectively and engaging in meaningful interactions:
- Mega agents (such as Shoprite’s / Checkers / Money Markets, Pick n Pay outlets, PEP outlets, etc.)
- Other Agents
- Office Staff
- Local media (for marketing purposes)
- Universities, colleges and other tertiary institutions
- Passengers
- Event organizers
- Area Manager and depot personnel
- Other functional departments within Intercape
Visit sales outlets (including agents, mega agents, and offices) frequently and regularly:
- Large outlets and offices at least monthly
- Medium agents at least once in three months
- Small agents at least annually
Maintain a record of visits and interactions with sales outlets:
- Update the agent CRM system timeously and accurately
Support Function
Provide support to the organisation by means of:
- Presenting training interventions as assigned by management on an ad hoc basis
- Assisting offices during peak times
- Supporting operations (obtaining letters, identifying stops and doing the new route groundwork)
- Assisting with arranging and taking part in Team Building initiatives
Vehicle Maintenance
Rep is responsible for their vehicle:
- Ensure that the vehicle is properly maintained
- Rep must make vehicles available to company when they are not using it, or when so instructed
- Rep must report damage or misuse from others using their vehicle
Effective utilization of all systems used in Intercape
- Responsible for effective utilisation, accurate capturing, and thorough record keeping on all systems relevant to perform daily tasks within department.
- Responsible to ensure that you have received training on Move/SOPS/the Booking System/Other applicable systems or have provided training to direct reports.
