Job Specifications:
Responsible for oversight of the Diving Support Program that includes usage of diving equipment and dive locker, as well as tasks not limited to the following:
Manages long term goals, administrative and financial needs of the program..
Makes technical decisions on when major repairs, upgrades, replacement, and specialized fabrication are needed.
Services, maintains and repairs IMS diving equipment.
Provides training, technical advice, and support as needed.
Ensures operations, policies and procedures are conducted according to federal, state and UCSC regulations.
Serves as IMS Diving Support Program representative on committees.
Supervises student assistants and volunteers in the operation and servicing of equipment.
Responsible for daily operations of the Quay-Side, Heavy Lift, Vessel, Tug/Tow Program that includes oversight of the boatyard area, as well as tasks not limited to the following:
Manages long term goals, administrative and financial needs of the program.
Makes technical decisions on when major repairs, upgrades, replacement, and specialized fabrication are needed.
Services, maintains and repairs marine equipment.
Provides training, technical advice, and support as needed.
Ensures operations, policies and procedures are conducted according to state regulations.
Serves as Small Boats Program representative on committees.
Supervises student assistants and volunteers in the operation and servicing of equipment.
Job Requirements:
College degree in related field and/or equivalent education, training, or experience.
Significant experience overseeing vessel, diving, and safety operations in a professional capacity.
Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the field of vessel operations, scientific diving, and ocean safety as demonstrated by broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and theories and systems associated with boat operations, scientific diving, and ocean safety.
Significant experience evaluating, testing, maintaining, and repairing scuba equipment, vessel parts, boating trailers, and general machinery, as well as other related diving and boating equipment.
General knowledge of regulations as they apply to boat and trailer operation, registration, and safety equipment.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate divers and diving projects and produce suggestions which lead to effective, efficient, and safe field research methods.
Experience diving in various conditions and performing duties underwater.
Experience operating automobiles/trucks with boat trailers and small boats.
Skilled in the use of power and hand tools or equipment.
Demonstrated ability to resolve a wide range of complex problems using creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problem and identify solutions in an effective and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and via reports and other materials.
Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders, team members, and individuals.
Experience developing, reviewing, and analyzing short- and long-range budgets and expenditure plans.
Highly organized, detailed, and efficient with proven time management skills.
Ability to maintain accurate records and write concise reports, using correct grammar and spelling.
Ability to work independently and establish priorities to complete tasks in a timely manner.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to exercise initiative.
Ability to apply tact and consistency in administering and enforcing policy.
