The Office of the Judiciary was created in terms of the Judiciary Act, 2015 (Act 11 of 2015), to give effect to Article 78 (5) of the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia and came into force on 31 December 2015. The Office of the Judiciary provides support to the Judiciary, and as it embarks on this journey, invites applications from dynamic, self-driven and motivated suitably qualified Namibian citizens for the following vacancies:

Chief Legal Officer Grade 4 Windhoek
NS 478 220 – 502 753 per Annum
NS 68 188 per Annum
NS 102 701 per Annum
Appointment requirements: Qualification, experience and skills
- BA LLB degree or equivalent qualification on NQF Level 7 in the field of Law;
- Admission as legal practitioner in Namibia;
- 5 years’ experience as admitted legal practitioner;
- Accredited mediator in the High Court of Namibia;
Added Advantage:
- Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office programs; and
- A valid driver’s License
Purpose of the job:
- The incumbent of the position will be heading the mediation section of the High Court of Namibia and hold an appointment as assistant registrar of the High Court
Key Accountabilities:
- Head of the Mediation section for both the Main Division and the Northern Local Division;
- Compilation and updating of Mediator’s training Manuals;
- Arrange annual Mediator’s training on various levels for new mediators as well as for exiting mediators;
- Providing advice on procedural aspects of mediation to court staff, court accredited mediators and other court users;
- Annual inspections and conducting mediations at the NAHCNLD;
- Performing selected functions in his/her capacity as assistant registrar of the High Court which will include but is not limited to taxations and determining of security.
Processing, submission and management of invoices and payments in respect of external mediators,
Reconciliation of payments made to external mediators and management of monies availed to the Mediator’s FDC line account;
Processing of mediation briefs received,
Processing of mediation reports received,
Assisting litigants to make preliminary bookings for mediations,
Confirming preliminary bookings against the appropriate court order,
Verify compliance to the court order by the respective parties, Inform external mediators of the confirmed mediation booking, Preparation and filing of cancellation notices, where necessary, Make him/herself available to attend to court connected mediations, by availing him/herself for three mediation slots per day,
Attend to any mediations booked against any such slots,
Attend to the verification of the preliminary booking against the court order, in respect of his/her own mediations,
Verify compliance with the court order, in respect of his/her own mediations,
Attend to the preparation and filing of a cancellation notice where applicable in respect of his/her own mediations,
Prepare and submit his/her mediation reports in respect of mediations which actually proceeded; and
Report to his / her supervisors on the efficiency, effectiveness and general status of court connected mediations.
