JUNIOR PRIMARY PHASE (SPECIAL UNIT) – Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture

You typically need a Diploma in Education (Primary) or a Bachelor of Education from a recognized institution like UNAM or NUST. A specialization in special education or inclusive education is highly advantageous. Registration with the Namibia Teaching Council is mandatory before employment.

You will develop and adapt Individualized Education Programmes (IEPs) for learners with diverse learning needs. Daily tasks include differentiated instruction, behavior management, and collaboration with parents, therapists, and mainstream teachers. Documentation and progress reporting are also core responsibilities.

Government schools follow structured public service regulations with defined working hours and union representation through NANTU. The culture emphasizes community engagement and multilingual instruction, often in Oshiwambo, Otjiherero, or other local languages alongside English. Private schools may offer more flexibility but less job security.

You can advance to Senior Teacher, Head of Department (HOD), or School Principal through experience and further qualifications. Specialized roles like Learning Support Advisor or Regional Inclusive Education Coordinator are also attainable. Pursuing a Master's in Inclusive Education or Educational Leadership accelerates promotion prospects.

Government positions include membership in the Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) and access to the Public Service Medical Aid Scheme (PSEMAS). You receive annual leave, sick leave, and maternity leave as per Public Service Act provisions. Housing allowances and study benefits may apply depending on your grade level.

Submit your application through the Government Vacancies Portal or designated regional offices with certified copies of all documents. Highlight any special education training, volunteer experience with learners with disabilities, and proficiency in local languages. Ensure your Namibia Teaching Council registration is current and include contactable referees from teaching practice or prior employment.
