Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough pre-operative anaesthetic assessments and obtain informed consent.
- Provide general, regional and local anaesthesia across a wide range of surgical specialties, including general, orthopaedic, obstetric, paediatric, ENT and cardiothoracic surgery.
- Manage the peri-operative airway, haemodynamics and analgesia, and respond to intra-operative emergencies.
- Provide post-operative pain management, including acute pain-service and regional-anaesthesia cover.
- Support the Intensive Care Unit with critical-care management as required.
- Participate in the on-call and emergency-anaesthesia roster.
- Collaborate closely with surgical, nursing, ICU and allied clinical teams to deliver safe peri-operative care.
- Contribute to clinical governance, morbidity and mortality reviews and quality-improvement initiatives (ISO 9001:2015).
- Support the training and mentorship of medical officers and nursing staff.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in line with HPCNA and hospital standards.
Requirements
- MBChB or equivalent primary medical qualification.
- Recognised specialist qualification in Anaesthesiology – FCA(SA), MMed(Anaesthesiology) or equivalent.
- Current registration with the Health Professions Council of Namibia (HPCNA) as a specialist Anaesthesiologist (or eligibility to register).
- Demonstrable post-specialisation clinical experience across major surgical specialties.
- Sound knowledge of peri-operative medicine, regional anaesthesia and critical care.
- Excellent clinical judgement, communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
