CONSTRUCTION SAFETY OFFICER – Seventy Consulting 3 views

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and work practices.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable Namibian health and safety legislation and company HSEQ policies.
• Develop, implement, and monitor site-specific Health and Safety Plans.
• Conduct risk assessments and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for construction activities.
• Facilitate safety inductions for new employees, visitors, and subcontractors.
• Conduct toolbox talks and ongoing safety awareness training.
• Monitor the use and condition of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses and prepare detailed reports with corrective actions.
• Maintain safety records, registers, permits, and statutory documentation.
• Ensure emergency response procedures, first aid arrangements, and fire safety measures are in place.
• Participate in client and contractor safety meetings.
• Monitor subcontractor compliance with safety requirements.
• Prepare weekly and monthly HSE reports for management.
• Recommend improvements to safety systems and procedures.
• Stop any unsafe work that poses an immediate danger to personnel, property, or the environment.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a Safety Officer within the construction industry.
• SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent Health and Safety qualification.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting incident investigations, safety audits, and risk assessments.
• Experience working with contractors and subcontractors in a construction environment.
• Valid First Aid Certificate.
• Fire Fighting Training Certificate will be an added advantage.
