The Chief Operating Officer (COO) plays a key role in the University’s executive leadership team, supporting the Vice-Chancellor in providing strategic and operational leadership to drive the institutional efficiency, sustainability and growth across all faculties and campuses. The position is instrumental in developing and leading professional services and ensuring alignment of operational plans to deliver the University’s strategy. It will make significant contributions to the development and implementation of strategy, driving organisational progress and development to enhance academic and business-related performance across the institution and to ensure the provision of quality services.
Key Responsibilities
- The COO is responsible for providing an oversight of the Satellite Campuses as well as direct service delivery of key professional services including Human Capital, Information, Communication and Technology, and Estate Services, Health and Safety, Security, Infrastructure Planning and Capital Projects.
- Supporting the academic core mission of the University by the provision of high-quality services to both staff and students, promoting engagement with academic leaders and a shared understanding of the service expectations and who is accountable for their delivery;
- Leadership and management of Human Capital, Information, Communication and Technology, and Estate Services and Infrastructure Planning;
- Improvement of organisational culture, efficiency and competitiveness through the effective management of physical, human and digital resources and corporate services;
- Drive high performance across the operations portfolio by ensuring that the directors of professional services work as an integrated team and that activities are delivered in a cohesive, cost effective and coordinated way to improve organisational efficiency and effectiveness;
- Leadership and management of the satellite campuses to ensure service delivery across all UNAM campuses;
- Creating sustainable institutional efficiency and effectiveness in the day to day administration of professional services.
Requirements
- Applicants should be academically strong individuals who command a high degree of respect from peers with strong communication and interpersonal skills, combined with a good understanding of the national and international roles of universities.
- A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management or equivalent relevant qualification;
- Postgraduate specialisation in any of the three areas of the portfolio (Human Capital, ICT or Estate Services) or a relevant doctoral degree will be an added advantage;
- At least 10 years of experience in Senior Management position/s involving business administration or operational management in a large organization.
- A strong record of strategic leadership and operational management across the operations portfolio;
- Experience of strategic business planning and implementation;
- Proven record of collaborative working across multi-disciplinary teams;
- Proven record of networking with strategic partners;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Experience in resource mobilization.
