CASUALTY OFFICER – EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT/ CASUALTY
**Purpose of the Position**
The Casualty Officer – Emergency Department/Casualty is responsible for delivering timely, high-quality emergency medical care to patients presenting to the Hospital’s Emergency Department. The incumbent will ensure effective patient assessment and triage, appropriate stabilization and coordinated admissions, while maintaining strict adherence to hospital protocols, clinical governance standards and the Hospital Emergency Plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting initial patient assessment and triage to prioritize urgent and life-threatening conditions.
- Providing timely stabilization and emergency medical management in accordance with accepted clinical standards and hospital protocols.
- Ensuring continuous patient monitoring, reassessment and appropriate escalation or admission where required.
- Maintaining accurate, comprehensive and legally compliant medical records and documentation.
- Coordinating effectively with nursing staff, specialists and hospital departments to ensure seamless patient care and admissions.
- Leading the development, review and implementation of Casualty protocols and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Developing and implementing a structured 24/7 operational management plan for the Casualty Department.
- Contributing to revenue performance, patient throughput optimisation and cost-benefit management of the Casualty Department.
- Acting as first responder in the activation and execution of the Hospital Emergency Plan and major incident management.
- Promoting patient safety, ethical medical practice and clear communication with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
Requirements
- Recognised medical degree (MBChB, MBBS or equivalent qualification).
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of Namibia (HPCNA) as a General Practitioner.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in an emergency or casualty care environment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (mandatory).
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification (Added advantage).
- Sound knowledge of emergency medicine protocols and hospital emergency systems.
- Strong clinical decision-making ability under pressure.
- Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.
- High level of professionalism, ethical conduct and accountability.
- Ability to work shifts and ensure 24/7 casualty coverage as required.
Salary
Commensurate with experience
