The Engineer: Drill and Blast will be responsible for the planning, design, execution, and optimisation of drilling and blasting operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule the drilling and blasting activities in accordance with short-term plans.
- Monitor and contribute to the development of procedures necessary to optimize the drilling and blasting process.
- Attend to and resolve drilling and blasting technical issues.
- Review QA/QC data and blast videos and recommend areas for further improvement.
- Inspect drill and blast areas periodically.
- Ensure inputs from the geotechnical section are incorporated in plans and designs.
- Monitor misfires register, magazine logbooks, and access.
- Develop models for rock hardness based on penetration rate data and fragmentation analysis, to adjust drill patterns for subsequent planned benches.
Requirements
- Grade 12.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Minimum of a National Diploma or Higher Diploma in Mining Engineering.
- Five (5) years’ experience in an open-cast or surface mining environment, of which 3 years should be in drill and blast.
- A valid and legal blasting ticket is required.
