The Plant Metallurgist will be responsible for managing the processing plant, optimising and monitoring all reagent and cyanide-related processes within the gold processing plant. This role ensures the safe handling of reagents, efficient consumption, adherence to environmental standards, and the continuous improvement of metallurgical performance in line with regulatory and company requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct routine audits of cyanide handling, storage, dosing systems, and detoxification circuits.
Ensure strict compliance with both the local and International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC) and standards.
Monitor and control the dosage of cyanide, lime, and other leaching reagents to optimize gold recovery in line with cost management.
Conduct leach test work, bottle rolls, and diagnostic metallurgy to improve extraction and reduce cyanide consumption.
Review plant performance KPIs and recommend process adjustments.
Support commissioning of new reagent systems and optimization projects.

Requirements

Minimum Grade 12.
Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, chemical engineering, mineral processing, or a related field.
Three (3-6) years’ experience in gold processing, preferably in a CIL/CIP plant.
Hands-on experience with cyanide handling and reagent management.
Experience in conducting metallurgical test work and plant optimisation.
Strong understanding of gold extraction processes (crushing, milling, leaching, adsorption, elution, detox).
Valid Code B driver’s licence.
