Job Title: Laboratory Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all Legal, Health, Safety and Environment related standards, practices, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are adhered to.
- Ensure all laboratory staff have adequate resources to perform all aspects of work required.
- Compiles and analyzes test information to determine operating efficiency of processes and equipment and to diagnose problems and malfunctions.
- Implement measures to improve testing procedures, use of equipment, and needs for new equipment.
- Maintain Analytical Laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards; developing operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair.
- Familiar with lean laboratory practices and actively works to apply the principles to routine activities.
- Ensures that the Quality Management System is established, implemented and maintained in conformance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025.
- Manage all short to medium term activities to ensure laboratory targets are met.
- Prepare annual budgets, and controls and manage resources in day-to-day operations.
- Lead and coordinate the work of team members to accomplish designated objectives.
- Support, create and maintain sound working relationships with co-workers / team members and client to resolve problems.
- Effective People and Performance Management.
- Leads the Laboratory in such a manner that it fosters innovation and technological excellence.
Requirements
- A recognized Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry or a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry.
- A minimum of 10 years of Laboratory experience in Mining laboratory or related field of which three (3) years should have been in managerial or five (5) years in supervisory capacity.
- At least 3 years in developing, implementing and maintaining quality control/quality assurance procedures based on ISO/IEC 17025.
- Use of statistical certification and validation techniques.
- Experience in use of range of analytical instrumentation e.g. XRF, ICP-OES/MS, etc.
- Experience in use of range of analytical techniques e.g. sample preparation, wet chemistry, titrimetric, gravimetric, etc.
- Working Experience on LIMS systems implementation and maintenance e.g. Bikas, CCLAS, LabWare, etc.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to positively influence people and interact with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to mentor and train others.
- Ability to think and act independently and make sound decisions.
- Proactive, planning and exhibits high level of critical thinking abilities and problem-solving skills.
- Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License.
