Job Purpose
The SHERQ Officer is responsible for ensuring full compliance with all Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality (SHERQ) standards across company operational and vendor sites. The role plays a critical function in risk mitigation, product quality control, and supporting sustainable practices in line with statutory and company policy requirements. This includes oversight at the Port Hub, Office Walvis Bay, and vendor locations such as LHU, RUL, SU, with scope to expand as operations grow.
Key Responsibilities
SHERQ Compliance and Risk Management
• Ensure ongoing compliance with Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality (SHERQ) standards across all Namibia operations and vendor sites
• Identify potential risks and recommend corrective or preventative actions
Site Inspections and Audits
• Conduct regular SHERQ audits, inspections, and assessments at operational and vendor sites
• Ensure adherence to both internal policies and external legislative requirements
Incident Investigation and Reporting
• Lead or support investigations into SHERQ incidents or near-misses
• Compile detailed reports and ensure that lessons learned are communicated and implemented across the organization
Data Collection and Analysis
• Maintain accurate, real-time SHERQ data and reporting systems
• Analyze trends to identify improvement areas and provide management with actionable insights
Training and Awareness
• Coordinate and deliver SHERQ training and awareness programs to employees and contractors
• Enhance SHERQ culture and competency
Product Quality Assurance
• Monitor and ensure consistent product quality in alignment with company and customer specifications
Sustainability and Environmental Management
• Promote environmental stewardship by ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and internal sustainability goals
Job-Related Skills and Competencies
• Strong knowledge of SHERQ systems, legislation, and standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
• Risk assessment and management
• Report writing and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to conduct training and facilitate workshops
• Investigation and root cause analysis
• Stakeholder engagement and relationship building
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and SHERQ-related software systems
Requirements
• National Diploma or Degree in Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality Management, or a related field
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a SHERQ role, preferably within the mining, manufacturing, or industrial sectors
• Familiarity with Namibian SHERQ legal and regulatory frameworks
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to various operational and vendor sites
• Certification in incident investigation (e.g., TapRoot, ICAM) would be advantageous
• Experience with vendor site compliance is a plus
