The purpose of this role is to provide professional, comprehensive, client focused, confidential and efficient co-ordination, administrative support and accounting services for the clients of the firm. This role will provide accounting compliance and advisory services to a wide range of clients.
The primary responsibility will be to deal with all matters relating to the accounting and administration of a portfolio of clients and Junior Accountants / Trainees. You will be involved in special assignments on an ad hoc basis.
A key part of the role requires the individual to actively seek, and keep the Partner(s) and Manager(s) informed about any new business opportunities arising on existing and new clients.
Job Overview
- Reporting to the SME Manager, the Senior Accountant is responsible for performing day-to-day accounting related activities assigned to him/her by the SME Manager. In particular, the Senior Accountant is responsible to:
- Interpret, understand and execute the detailed instructions/accounting programme/assignment to meet the Client expectations on each assignment;
- Understand the departmental budget and objective of the department;
- Train and set-up of Junior Accountants/Trainees to execute detailed instructions/accounting programmes/assignments;
- Supervise, train and assist Junior Accountants/Trainees in their execution of detailed instructions/accounting programmes/assignments;
- Supervise a team of up to 5 (five) people to achieve the objectives of the department;
- Understand and train Junior Accountants/Trainees on the firm’s Risk and Quality procedures, ensuring adherence to these by self and sub-ordinates;
- Contribute to the culture of Quality, Ethical, and Professional Behaviour of the firm in a positive manner.
Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge
- Obtained a BCom degree or equivalent or has completed 80% of said degree;
- Minimum years of experience in a professional environment as follows:
- Obtained degree : 2 (two) years
- Completed 80% : 2 (two) to 4 (four) years
- Completed 60% : 5 (five) years
Qualified with Professional Body membership
- IT literate with a high level of competence in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook);
- High level of working knowledge of a variety of accounting software (CaseWare, Pastel, VIP, etc.);
- Ability to work with and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information;
- Skilled at written and verbal communication – articulate and able to write appropriate professional communications. Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative nature, and the ability to work in a cross-team environment;
- Effective time management and organizational skills, with the ability to perform/supervise multiple projects with competing deadlines and the ability to prioritise tasks in an appropriate manner;
- High values in teamwork, client/customer service and professionalism;
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, management and clients;
- Ability and willingness to travel to various office locations.
