Educational Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
A B. V Science- degree (NQF level 8) or equivalent qualification. Candidate must be registered with the Namibian Veterinary Council (NVC).
LINE FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for co-coordinating diagnoses, reporting, control or eradication of scheduled animal diseases as prescribed in legislation, circulars and instructions.
2. Responsible for the success of surveillance, monitoring and movement control programmes in his/her area or tasks specifically assigned to him/her-for example co-ordination of:
⦁ Animal disease inspections: (FMD, NCD< SCAB, ASF, Anthrax, Brucellosis, CBPP, BSE, auctions etc.)
⦁ Permit and Movement control.
⦁ Control and Maintenance of veterinary fences, quarantine stations and/ or control programmes (including tanneries, taxidermists, feedlots, etc.).
⦁ Residue control programmes.
⦁ Branding for cattle, identification of cattle, marking of small stock (tattoo/ear tag)
⦁ Control of veterinary export certification establishments (ostrich holdings, hides/skin depots, meat/biltong processing establishments, etc.)
3. Prophylactic compulsory vaccination programmes: control and report FMD, CBPP, Rabies, Brucellosis, Anthrax and others as dictated by risk or outbreaks.
4. Investigation, diagnoses and assistance during epizootic or foreign disease outbreaks or occurrence of disease of great economic impact. This may include problem-orientated research or surveys when authorised by Chief Veterinary Officer.
5. Import control and export certification:
⦁ Inspections, testing, verification and responsible certification for the exportation of various animals and animal products in accordance with the importing countries requirements. Certification must be in accordance with internal acceptable norms, follow the golden rule “rather be too strict than too lax”.
⦁ Careful checking, and verifying of commodities/ documentation or further investigation to ensure that Namibia’s import requirements have been met – our favourable animal disease status may be at risk.
