Job summary
The candidate will be a manager of the medical division responsible for safe transfusion practice and the resolution of medical queries arising internally, Le. from within the Transfusion Service as well as externally, i.e. from blood donors and from hospitals and clinicians.
Main responsibilities
- Define and review the medical criteria for the selection and bleeding of blood donors as well as dealing with al queries regarding the selection and bleeding of blood donors
- Provide consultation and professional advice to hospitals and clinicians prescribing or administering blood components and products, including where appropriate, advice on clinical blood component
use Le product selection, dosage and administration.
- Advising hospitals and clinicians on the management of adverse outcomes of blood transfusion.
- Managing the haemoviglance programme and preparation of the appropriate annual reports.
- Write and review guidelines for the appropriate use of blood and blood products.
- Conduct training of healthcare workers who are involved in the prescription and administration of blood components and products.
Minimum qualification and requirements Education:
. MB. Ch.B.
- Registered with HPCNA as a Medical Practitioner and in good standing.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Transfusion Medicine. Alternatively, be required to undertake and pass a fully funded 2 year course in Post Graduate Diploma In
Transfusion Medicine or equivalent. Once funded by NamBTS, the incumbent is required to work for the Service for at least 2 years post qualification.
Experience:
- At least 3 years broad post-primary qualification clinical experience and involvement in the treatment of patients requiring blood and blood products.
- Demonstrable IT literacy in major business applications
Other (knowledge and skills):
- Knowledge of basic Patient Blood Management principles.
- Experience working in a clinical quality control system would be advantageous
- Understanding of clinical indications for the transfusion of blood products.
- Understanding of Haemovigilance practices and procedures.
- Leadership skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Good knowledge of the Namibian healthcare system.
- Willingness to travel
Remuneration:
Salary and benefits are subject to negotiation and will be offered according to qualifications and experience.
