Salary Scale : N$400,001 XP-N$478,220
Transport Allowance : N$7,680 per annum
Housing Allowance : N$13,080 per annum
Danger Allowance : N$30,780 per annum
Appointment Requirements: A recognized 4-year B-degree or B. Honours degree (or
equivalent qualifications on NQF Level 8) in one or more of the following directions: Fisheries
or Aquatic Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Statistics, Fisheries Stock Assessment and
Fisheries Management, with at least 4 years spent in the field of fisheries research and/or
Management at a level equivalent or higher to that of a Senior Fisheries Biologist (Grade 6) in
Government.
Additional requirements: The successful candidate will be expected to lead several research
programmes and oversee the supervision of junior scientific personnel. The candidate should
therefore have good leadership and supervisory skills. A higher degree’ in the field of
Fisheries/Aquatic Sciences or Fisheries Stock Assessment, as well as an extensive knowledge
of the use of research scientific data in the formulation of scientific advice to Senior
Management and a valid code B (or higher) driver’s license will serve as an advantage.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be in charge of the Sub-division Pelagic Research,
supervising and co-ordinating all research on pelagic resources, in line with the aims and
objectives of the Directorate.
Responsible for the control of the equipment and resources assigned to the Subdivision
Pelagic Resources Research.
Responsible for the control and performance appraisal of personnel falling directly under
the Subdivision Pelagic Resources Research.
Planning and co-ordination of Pelagic related research, both in the medium and longerterm, with the emphasis on stock assessment.
Co-ordination and presentation of scientific recommendations to Senior Management,
regarding resources management, legislation and policies that are impacting on Pelagic
and other resources.
Leading stock assessment discussions during the Stock Assessment and Working Group
meetings and other similar fora with emphasis on pelagic resources.
Participation in projects relating to pelagic resources and actively leading join research
projects with other private or government agencies, as well as with any international
organizations co-operating with Namibia.
Planning and co-ordination of the in-house training of all personnel within the Sub-division
Pelagic Resources Research and, where applicable, other personnel.

the Namibian Qualifications Authority (NQA) and certified copies of evaluation reports by
