VACANCY:  ASSISTANT GIS TECHNICIAN

DUTY STATION:OTJIWARONGO

BUSINESS UNIT:NETWORK ENGINEERING & EXPANSION

DURATION:ONE (1) YEAR CONTRACT

The incumbent will report directly to the Geomatics Technician and needs to carry out Geographic information System (GIS) and Computer Aided Design (CAD) activities.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

Assist to p an and produce MV and LV network project maps and drawings, including setting-out(pegging)of these networks for construction purposes.

Assist with interpreting as-built drawings, construction plans, engineering plans, zoning maps, deeds, legal descriptions, surveying diagrams, imagery, and related source documents and incorporate them into GIS and CAD us ng various methods such as coordinate geometry, digitizing. GPS, etc.

• Assist in the data collection, updating, creation, conversion and maintenance of multiple GIS and CAD layers including MV. and LV networks, cadastre, farms, wayleavas (servitudes), and other developmental layers including updating of drawing registers.
• Assist in quality assurance and quality control, and perform routing data management tasks, such as data validation and correction, queries, and editing in GIS and CAO to ensure data accuracy, integrity,and completeness.

• Assist with the GIS and CAD Master Plan development. Database design, Metadata design, Master data list design and Web GIS development.

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:

• Bachelors in Spatial Sciences (i.e. Geomatics, Spatial Planning or related).
• At least one (1) year experience in GIS and CAO application.
• Knowledge and capabilities in various GIS & CAD software, including GPS and ITC systems.
• Database Administration.
• Creativity, innovation and Attention to detail.

. Must be medically fit to work in the field and in a construction environment.

• Good English and report writing skills.

. Customer/Employee service driven.

. A Code B driver’s licence will be an added advantage.

. Familiar with safety and health Issues in the Engineering field.
